Glue-down LVT
Also called dryback LVT. The pieces are bonded to a suitably prepared base. The final appearance depends heavily on subfloor smoothness, moisture control, adhesive selection and fitting.

Why choose this range
LVT can give a premium wood or stone look with strong day-to-day practicality, but preparation is critical to the finished result.
Luxury Vinyl Tile buying guide
Luxury Vinyl Tile, usually shortened to LVT, is modular resilient flooring supplied as planks or tiles. Designs can reproduce wood or stone looks, but the correct choice depends on the individual product specification, intended room, subfloor, preparation and installation method.
Also called dryback LVT. The pieces are bonded to a suitably prepared base. The final appearance depends heavily on subfloor smoothness, moisture control, adhesive selection and fitting.
Planks or tiles connect as a floating floor. It can suit some renovation projects, but still requires a flat, stable base, correct expansion detail and the base or underlay specified for that product.
Check the stated domestic or commercial use rating, water guidance, wear layer, slip information and warranty for the exact design. A collection name alone does not prove suitability.
LVT follows the surface beneath it. Unevenness, movement or moisture can affect the finish, so inspection and preparation are part of the floor—not optional extras.
Product comparison
| Decision | Glue-down LVT | Click LVT | Laminate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Installation | Bonded to a prepared base with the specified adhesive system. | Floating floor with locking joints and required expansion detail. | Floating plank floor using its specified underlay and expansion detail. |
| Subfloor | Requires a smooth, dry, stable and correctly prepared surface. | Requires a flat, dry, clean and stable surface within product tolerances. | Requires a flat, dry, clean and stable surface within product tolerances. |
| Floor height | Often a lower-profile fitted build-up; confirm the full preparation and adhesive system. | Usually a thicker floating construction than dryback; check doors and thresholds. | Board and underlay build-up must be allowed for at doors and transitions. |
| Water | Do not rely on the word “waterproof” alone. Check the exact product, joints, perimeter, subfloor and installation guidance. | Water resistance varies by product; a wood-based core and joints require the exact manufacturer guidance. | |
| Best starting point | Prepared projects seeking a bonded, precise finish. | Suitable rooms where a floating LVT system is specified. | Dry rooms where a laminate system suits the use, feel and budget. |
Thickness and wear layer
Overall thickness affects build-up and fitting detail, but a thicker product is not automatically better. Glue-down and click constructions use thickness differently.
The wear layer is the transparent surface layer above the design. It helps compare products, but it does not replace the stated use classification, maintenance instructions or warranty. Confirm the exact specification for domestic, busy household or commercial use.
Also check plank or tile size, pack coverage, surface texture, bevel, slip information, installation method and compatibility with the intended room.
Room and lifestyle guide
LVT can provide an easy-to-clean surface, but spills, joints, perimeter details and subfloor moisture still need correct product selection and installation.
Cleaning practicality can be useful in busy homes. Scratch, dent, slip and stain performance varies, so check the exact product guidance and protect the floor from grit and unsuitable furniture feet.
Only use a product and installation system approved for the intended area. “Waterproof” flooring does not make the subfloor, perimeter or room waterproof.
Use only LVT whose classification and warranty support the traffic and activity. Preparation, adhesive, rolling, maintenance and downtime form part of the specification.
Preparation and installation
Confirm the base type, flatness, stability, condition and moisture risk. Existing coverings, contamination, cracks or movement may change the preparation plan.
A compatible smoothing compound may be required to create the surface needed for glue-down LVT. The correct primer, compound and depth depend on the substrate and site assessment.
Glue-down products require the adhesive and fitting method specified for the product and conditions. Click LVT requires correct joint engagement, expansion detail and transition planning.
Do not add generic underlay beneath LVT. Some click products include a base or specify a particular underlay; glue-down LVT normally follows its approved preparation and adhesive system.
Measuring and calculator
Record the maximum length and width of each floor area and keep separate rooms, alcoves and unusual sections clear.
Use its calculator where available. It uses that product’s governed pack coverage and waste rule rather than a generic box assumption.
Pattern direction, borders, several connected rooms, stairs and complex cuts can change the final requirement. Confirm before ordering.
Cleaning, lifespan and warranty
Remove grit, use suitable entrance protection and follow the exact manufacturer cleaning instructions. Avoid unsupported chemicals, steam or flooding unless the product guidance explicitly permits them.
There is no responsible universal lifespan claim for LVT. Service life and warranty depend on the product, traffic, preparation, installation, care and warranty terms. Arra Flooring checks the relevant specification before recommending a floor.

LVT questions
LVT means Luxury Vinyl Tile. It is modular resilient flooring supplied as planks or tiles, commonly in wood or stone designs. Construction, use rating and fitting method vary by product.
Some LVT products are described as waterproof or water resistant, but suitability depends on the exact product and installation. Joints, perimeters, moisture below the floor and the room itself still require correct assessment.
Neither is automatically better. Glue-down LVT suits a bonded installation over a prepared base; click LVT is a floating system. The room, subfloor, height, preparation and product specification decide.
LVT is resilient vinyl flooring, while laminate usually uses a wood-based core. They differ in feel, construction, water guidance, installation and price. Compare the exact products and room requirements.
It can be practical to clean, but scratch, dent, stain and slip performance varies. Choose from the exact use specification and follow care guidance.
Only where the product’s classification and warranty support the intended traffic and use. Preparation, adhesive or click system, maintenance and installation detail must also suit the project.
It depends on the product. Do not add generic underlay. Some click LVT includes backing or specifies a compatible underlay, while glue-down LVT normally uses its approved preparation and adhesive system.
There is no single lifespan or warranty for all LVT. Check the exact product terms; preparation, installation, traffic and care all affect performance.
Installer-led advice
LVT is usually supplied in full boxes. Check box coverage, allow waste and confirm whether dryback or click suits the room and subfloor.

Neither is automatically better. The right choice depends on the room, subfloor, preparation budget and fitting requirements.
Usually yes. Dryback especially needs a smooth prepared base, while click LVT still needs a clean, level and stable floor.

Complete the flooring system
The surface flooring is only one part of a successful installation. Use these next steps to identify what may be needed, then ask Arra Flooring where product or subfloor compatibility is not yet confirmed.
Moisture, flatness and surface condition determine whether smoothing, priming, a moisture system or other preparation is required.
Plan Floor PreparationGlue-down LVT needs a manufacturer-compatible adhesive system. Click LVT may need compatible underlay only where the exact product specification requires it.
Confirm the Installation SystemTransitions and edging depend on the LVT construction, adjoining surface, finished height and doorway or stair detail.
Review Profiles & FinishingCompatibility safety: where the exact product, subfloor or installation system is uncertain, ask Arra Flooring before ordering. No product is recommended solely because it shares a category.
